Isaac Michael Otto's Birth Story

Monday morning August 31st I woke up to go to the bathroom and saw that I had lost my mucus plug. I was so excited but after doing some research found out that you could loose your plug up to a week to 2 weeks before going into labor. I still felt excited knowing that it could be any day. Throughout the day Monday I kept having different contractions that started at the bottom of my stomach and moved upward. They were a little more painful but I definitely knew they were something new and different than what I was feeling. It was my day off so I had my whole house to clean. Chad kept telling me to rest, rest, but all I could think about was, “What if I go into labor? My house will be dirty!” So I’d rest and then get up and do a little, rest and do a little more. Needless to say it took me ALL day to clean my house AND Chad helped a lot. Every time I stood up from resting I got a contraction.
Tuesday was pretty quiet. I had contractions off and on but they were nothing like they were on Monday. Still loosing a little more of my plug. I so needed a pillow to sit on because no matter how much padding there is in my chair it is not enough.
I remembered and took a pillow from home to work. But after work on Wednesday I felt as though the next day and a half that I had left to work/train were going to be long and very painful. I could not get comfortable at all on Wednesday sitting all day at my desk on a pillow. I took several breaks to get water and use the bathroom but I was sore and just really worn out. After I got home I sort of laid around and sat on the couch trying to get comfortable. I felt as though my how crotch area was raw. That night as I fell asleep on the couch I praying and remember telling God I thought I was done.
At around 3:00/3:30 Thursday morning Chad had already gone to work so I went to get in our bed until it’s time to go to work. I remember drinking something from the fridge and then going to the bathroom. I laid in bed a little while trying to go back to sleep and that’s when it happened. I think I went to roll over and felt a small amount of fluid leak out. It wasn’t this huge gush that you always hear but I could tell it was not normal. I knew I hadn’t pee’d on myself because I had just gone to the bathroom. I went to the bathroom to investigate and could tell on the way what I was going to find. I was like, “Did my water just break?” I was in shock and sort of just sat there thinking of what to do? What to do? Ghee! I was so excited!!!! While throwing things in my bag I called and called Chad and had no response. I bet I called him 6 or 7 times and got no answer. I called Nancy, my mother-in-law, and told her that my water had possibly broken and to get ready to come over. I called Chad again twice and got no answer so I finally left a voicemail. I started the shower and then he called back. You could tell he was excited/nervous and he said he would be home as soon as he could. I jumped in the shower and washed my hair. I knew they’d keep me and we’d possibly have the baby and I wanted to be all clean. I wanted to shave my legs but I knew Chad would never go for that.
He flew in the door and wanted to also investigate to make sure what I was seeing was really my water breaking. We flew out the door and Chad gunned it to the hospital. I was having contractions like 3 minutes apart and were a wee bit painful but I knew these weren’t the true hard labor contractions. I kept telling Chad to slow down that we had plenty of time plus it had started to rain. All he said was that if a cop were to pull us over there would be no way he’d give us a ticket. I kept thinking a police escort to the hospital would have been really cool. I remember him asking me, “So how long after your water breaks do we have?” I reassured him that everyone was different but that I felt we had plenty of time to get to the hospital safely.
Around 4:15 am we get to the hospital and check in at the desk. I asked the receptionist if they’d be really busy tomorrow since I had heard there was going to be a full moon. She said yes but that this rain would bring more in than the full moon would.
They took me to triage and tried to test the fluid to see if indeed my water had broken. They had a hard time trying to test it because I also had been passing blood. They said the test would be inconclusive if blood were present. Finally the nurse got her supervisor in to help with the testing and sure enough my water had broken. She did do an internal check and determined that I was only 1 centimeter dilated. At that time I was hooked up to a monitor so I could see my contractions as they began and ended. They were beginning to get really painful. I was so thankful to be having a C-Section and to not be able to feel any of that pain.
The nurse said she’d go and call Dr. Wingo to see what he wanted to do. She returns at 5:00 and says that he wants to go ahead and do the C-Section at 7:30. I had Chad take one of my last pregnancy pictures and then I tried to slap on my makeup. They moved me up to prep for surgery and then it became real. I started to get nervous because of the spinal. That was the worst thing of the whole C-Section process with Lucas. I could not feel anything below my neck plus I was so sick and out of it afterwards that I could not enjoy holding and seeing Lucas for the first time.
I was finally able to call Mom but she didn’t answer on either phones. I finally got in touch with her at 6:30 and told her the news. She tried to make it but with the rain it made it difficult. I think she made it at 7:15 after they had took me.
Time for the spinal and I remember praying it wouldn’t be bad. After they finally got it positioned I was moved to the operating table and I could actually feel my chest. The block only went up to my ribs. Oh, that was a true blessing! I started to feel a little sick so I told the anesthesiologist and he gave me something that stopped it in less than a minute. Within seconds at 7:44 am I could hear our sweet miracle crying. All I could see were Chad’s eyes sparkling as he looked for the gender. Dr. Wingo had told me when he walked in the operating room that although Chad had requested he tell me the gender, Dr. Wingo said he would tell us both at the same time. You can tell in the pictures that Dr. Wingo is covering the privates in order for it to be a surprise. He lifted the baby over the drape and all I saw were testicles! Yeaaaaaa! It was a boy! I knew I was right. The next thing I couldn’t wait for was to see his face. He was beautiful and had cute chubby cheeks. I was also dying to see how much he weighed because I was sooo big. The scale read 8 lbs and 1 ounce and he was 18 and ¼ inches long. One pound less then Lucas and Lucas was 21 and ½ inches long.
They moved me to recovery and took Isaac to the nursery. For about 4 hours I was in recovery and had to wait until I could wiggle my feet. I don’t remember doing this with Lucas but I tried and tried to move my feet. I just couldn’t do it. It’s the weirdest feeling ever!
While I was waiting Mom, Lisa and Dad all walked in not knowing what the gender was. That was so much fun telling them what the baby was and how much he weighed. What an exciting time in my life!
I was finally able to wiggle and feel my feet so it was time to be moved into my new room. On the way we saw Charles and Jamie and they followed us to the room. I remember feeling no pain or anything at that time. I didn’t even feel as though I had had a baby. I still don’t feel as though I’ve had a baby. It’s so bitter sweet but each day the swelling goes away and I’m feeling more like a non-pregnant woman. The whole pregnancy and labor was so much more easier than Lucas’ ever was. I was up cooking dinner the day I got home from the hospital. Don’t get me wrong, I was sore for days but not really in any pain I could not handle. Baptist Hospital and their nurses/services were WONDERFUL and maybe one day I’ll be able to go and have my 3rd one! We’ll see.
Baby Isaac is a very good baby. The only time he cried in the hospital was when he was born. The nurses said he never cried for his bath and he never even cried when he was circumcised! I figured he would be super good at the hospital but once I got home he would start crying and be a different baby. Nope. He’s been good ever since. The first 3 nights he slept for 6 hours straight! I could not believe it. It was a little scary. Now it’s between 3 and 4 hours at night and 3 during the day. He sleeps all the time and you’d never know he was even here. Sometimes I forget he is here.
We started out nursing but had latch issues. My milk even came in on day 3. He’d latch on but then come off. He’d get fussy and move from side to side. I did keep trying but he seemed to take a pumped bottle instead a lot easier. I felt he was much happier eating and a happy baby makes a happy mommy. So I’m pumping and he’s taking a bottle. I don’t care. As long as he’s getting breast milk I don’t care. Lucas was the same way and then one day I tried the breast again and he latched on and became a pro. I’m sure Isaac will do the same.
It still is hard to believe that it’s all over and he’s here. You sort of go through a morning process of no longer being pregnant. You miss all the looks, comments and compliments and now just feel fat. But as of today I’ve lost all the weight I gained plus some. I still miss being pregnant but sort of glad I’m getting my body back.

September 3, 2009 - Birth Day!

Here's two of my last pregnancy pictures!
My water broke this morning at about 3 am. I could not believe it so I waited around a minute in total shock. I called Chad and finally got him after 15 minutes. He flew home and rushed me to the hospital while I had a few intense contractions. After I arrived it was finally determined that my water had infact broke. C-Section was performed at 7:30 and our precious miracle was born at 7:44. We're both in love and thanked God immediately after the birth.

Wanna guess what we had?

That's right! A boy! Isaac Michael Otto weighed 8 lbs, 1 ounce and is 18 3/4 inches long. He is the best baby ever and has only cried when he was first born. I think he looks like Chad and not me. He looks totally different from Lucas. He's lighter skinned, light brown hair, blonde eyebrows and eyelashes, oval face and shorter. He's perfect! I'm so in love.

I'm doing great and cannot beleive how painless I've been. That might change tomorrow but I'm just glad the surgery is all over. I told God last night that I thought I was ready for this to be over and He heard me. He just keeps blessings us and we're so thankful.

If I have not called you I'm truly sorry. In the rush I ran off and left my cell phone on the bed.
Chad is going home tomorrow to get Lucas to bring him to see Isaac. I'll call you then. I'm also going to post pics of Lucas with Isaac when he gets here tomorrow. I cannot wait. He's going to be so excited. If you can, come and see us. We're at Baptist in room 7715 or you can call us at 615-284-7715. Love you guys but I'm totally exhausted!!!!!!!!!!!

Week 38 - August 31, 2009

1 week! Wow. I’m getting a little scared now. It’s starting to become so surreal. I lost my mucus plug yesterday morning. I knew exactly what it was. It’s exciting because the baby could come at any time now. Throughout the day I kept having different contractions that started at the bottom of my stomach and moved upward. They were a little more painful but I definitely knew they were something new and different than what I was feeling. Yesterday was my day off so I had my whole house to clean. Saturday night there for like 15 minutes they were coming 5 minutes apart but then they fizzed out and came infrequently. I don’t remember having this many contractions with Lucas. I guess it’s because it’s my 2nd baby. We’re just so close I can taste it. I put my hairdryer, curling iron and flat iron in my hospital bag because I know I could go at any time. At this time I have no idea if I’ll make it to next Tuesday. Every day I leave work I try to leave it as if I’m not coming back. That’s kind of hard to do when you haven’t completely finished everything. Oh, well. Marlene is good and she’ll figure it out and it will get done. I have more things to worry about!
I felt yesterday that my stomach looked just a little lower than it normally does. Lynette and Marlene both asked today if I had noticed my stomach had dropped.
I have my last appointment this week. I’m so curious now that my plug is gone how much I’ve dilated. I’m going to ask him on Thursday if he’ll check me just to humor me. I’m so curious! After my appointment on Thursday I’ll add what I found out!

Week 37 - August 24, 2009

2 weeks! I cannot believe how close we are to holding this baby in our arms! I have mixed emotions…one minute I’m excited, next minute I’m scared and the next I’m sad that it’s almost over – the pregnancy that is. I love the sweet kicks, hiccups, attention, looks and smiles I’m getting from this huge belly! I’ve really enjoyed being pregnant this time. Swelling hasn’t been bad this time around; my teeth being out of align haven’t been bad; back has had problems but not like with Lucas. Maybe it’s because I haven’t gained as much weight this time although I’m heavier this time around. And I haven’t been that sick. With Lucas it seemed like I had a cold or scratchy throat all the time. I think drinking lots of water, allergy shots and cutting down my Diet Mt. Dews have really helped with the whole pregnancy this time around. Part of me is ready to have my old body back and part of me could stay pregnant forever. It’s very bittersweet because this probably will be our last. It’s very sad once you think about it.
Anyway, got a few more things done in preparation for the baby. I got the car seat installed. I think it took about 30 to 45 minutes. I had to move Lucas’ seat over behind me and clean up the center where his seat was. It’s weird to look back and him be behind me and see another car seat on the other side!!! Boy, talk about not having any room for anyone to ride in the back. It’s very tight back there. There’s space enough for the armrest in the middle and that’s it. Lucas thinks it’s cool because he can put his sippy cup in the cup holder on the left and the baby can put his/her bottle on the right. I thought that was too cute.
I think he’s enjoying being closer to the window. He hasn’t figured out that he can roll the window down yet but I’m sure it won’t be long. The doors automatically lock when the car goes into gear and you have to manually unlocked it instead of just opening up the door. So that’s a great feature to have. Chad called me on Wednesday and told me not to go online and look at the checking account, so I knew something was up. This is what was delivered to work!

Aren't they beautiful? I'm very proud of them. The card thanked me for taking such good care of our baby for the past 8 months. He's such a sweetie! I am truly blessed by God for a good husband, son and this miracle baby!
I went to the doctor on Thursday and nothing has really changed and that’s because he’s not checking me. I did gain 2 lbs so I’m at 13 lbs. Next week is my last appointment so if I only gain 2 next week I’ll be at 15 lbs total gained during this pregnancy!!! I’m totally excited about that.
He measured me and checked the heartbeat which was 147. I asked if I’m still measuring 2 weeks ahead and he said no, just 1 but it’s probably because the baby has moved down lower into my pelvis. He said this baby is still big. Last week he said he thought the baby would weigh around 9 lbs at first but then he said probably 8 something. I think 8 lbs is perfect! Here are the coming home/picture outfits that Chad and I chose. He got to pick the girl’s and I got to pick the boy’s.
We’ve been looking for a big brother T-Shirt for Lucas and have had no luck. Some saleslady told me to look at the hospital, duh, and they are bound to have them. So Chad took a trip to Baptist just for this shirt. It’s not the cutest thing in the world but I guess it’ll do. He went through so much trouble that I had to accept it. Lucas looks so cute in it. That’s all that matters. I found a Big Brother ball cap at a garage sale for 25 cents so I’m sure he’ll wear that, too! It’s really big for his head but he looks so cute! It makes me laugh.

Week 36 - August 17, 2009

3 weeks! I cannot believe how close we are to seeing our baby. This pregnancy really has gone fast. I’m sure these next 3 weeks will fly by.
I started training my maternity replacement, Marlene yesterday. She left Steve Ward and Associates about 7 years ago and she trained me as her replacement. So she still remembers how to do things which is a HUGE relief. We’ve changed a few things but she’s a fast learner and I’m so happy she’s going to be covering for me. I’ve temporarily changed my Fridays off for Mondays off as I will be training Marlene on Fridays. So this past weekend I had a 4 day weekend!
Friday I had Chad pull the rest of Lucas’ old clothes down from the attic. I went through and sorted the ones I wanted to keep and hung and tagged for consignment the ones I didn’t. That was a lot of work. I probably did around 7 to 8 loads of laundry. So I basically dedicated Friday for get ready for baby day. I washed down the cradle and mattress so that’s ready.
Had my 2 week appointment this week. I lost 3 lbs. So I’ve gained a total of 11 lbs! I’m so excited. I think my body has finally gotten rid of all that fluid they pumped me up with at the hospital. My feet and legs aren’t swelling as bad as they were last week.
I just knew Dr. Wingo would start checking me since I’m getting so close but he didn’t. I asked him why and he said he will not check me at all because he knows how this baby will be born. So no checks to see if I’m dilated. I was sort of bummed because I’ve been having tons of Braxton Hicks contractions and I thought maybe that would dilate me. But on the other hand, not having a doctor check for dilation is totally fine with me! I think I only dilated a finger tip with Lucas. So I probably have not made any progress.
No more ultrasounds unless there are any complications unless the baby is not moving, same as Lucas did. So I’m glad we got some great ultrasound pictures the last time we went.
The baby is still measuring 2 weeks ahead. Dr. Wingo said the baby will be around 8 ½ lbs which is close to what Lucas weighed, 8 lbs. 2 ozs.
I have 2 more doctor appointments and then I’ll be holding my baby. Gosh, it’s so close now.
I’m feeling fairly well and very surprised I feel so good. Getting tired earlier at night but during the day I feel really good. I just pray I feel this good during the next 2 weeks.
Bring on the jokes. Everyone is commenting on how big my belly is. I’m all baby this time and my stomach is HUGE. I don’t feel big until I see myself in the mirror and my belly is pretty big. I still can’t believe there is a true live baby in there. It’s a pure miracle. How can a baby fit into such a small space and live for days, weeks? You can tell the baby is trying to find room because I feel him or her stretching and is really quite active still. I keep telling them it won’t be long and you’ll have plenty of room to stretch out!

Week 35 - August 10, 2009

4 more weeks! Gosh that seems so far away but in all actuality it’s right around the corner. I’m so ready for this baby to be here although there still are a few things I need to get done before the baby gets here.
Chad and I tackled tons this weekend. We finally moved Lucas into a twin bed in order for us to put the crib mattress back in the crib in the nursery. So we got a great deal on a mattress and did not have to pay sales tax due to the tax-free weekend. We also got a great deal on his bedding. There was a Construction Truck theme bed-in-a-bag on clearance at Kohl’s for $29. Total score! We were going to do the Cars theme but the sheets alone were $30. So we’re happy about that. Lucas loves his new bed and is sleeping very well.
Chad got the cradle down, Moses basket and Lucas’ old clothes down from the attic. I’ve gone through the clothes and put a few in consignment. Now I just need to wash the others. I’ve washed the Moses back bedding so that’s ready to go. Now I need to get the cradle bedding from my sister and wash that.
I bought new nipples for the bottles which was on the list so those are bought. $5 for 2 nipples is crazy seeing I have tons of bottles! Now I just need to wash and sterilize the bottles but I can do that once I get home after the baby is born.
Finally found the coming home outfit for the boy. Chad and I had an agreement with Lucas. He would buy the girl’s outfit and I could choose the boy’s. We kept the girl’s outfit so now we needed to replace the boy’s. This has been difficult to find what I’m looking for. I wanted something very dressy but all I kept finding were sleepers. So I’m so excited about my find. The darn thing cost $24 but in my opinion it was so worth it. I had been to like 5 or 6 other stores looking for the perfect outfit and I finally found it. I was buying it no matter how much it was. We can always take it back if it’s not a boy, which I don’t think will happen. Chad swears it’s a girl.
He came out of the bathroom on Friday and said he had just gotten a sign from God. That he saw a piece of thread on the bathroom floor in the perfect shape of a heart which means Love, which is what we named our 2nd baby that I miscarried, which Chad believes was a girl. Then at Wendy’s Lucas had a chicken nugget in the perfect shape of a heart; one more sign. Coming out of Target and going home was a totally pink sky, absolutely beautiful, 3rd sign. Then once we got home on the floor there was a red heart sticker stuck to the carpet, 4th sign. Chad said all 4 signs were from God that this baby is a girl. Well, we’ll see. I’ll be sooo happy if it’s a girl because every woman dreams of having a girl who looks just like them. But deep down in my heart I know it’s a boy. I’m very happy that it’s a potential boy because Lucas will have a brother. I love having a sister and wouldn’t know what I’d do without her. There’s just something about that bond. If it’s a boy I just pray that they’ll always be close and get along together. Lucas will be a great brother no matter if it’s a girl or a boy. You can tell he’s getting excited. I’m going to have to really watch him because he really loves babies and is always trying to give my nephew, John, his bottle, wants to kiss him and plays with him. I’m afraid he may try to pick the baby up and bring her/him to me. How frightening. But he’ll be so much help to me because he’s so much help right now.
I’m feeling pretty good and was shocked at how much energy I had this weekend. I kept wondering if this is my burst of energy. Monday morning I was exhausted so it caught up with me. Maybe I was so tired because I had tried to choke Chad in my sleep the night before. I so do not remember doing that but I do remember dreaming about a man on his knees looking over men and I was scared. I also remember Chad saying something to me but I thought maybe I had hit him. I didn’t know I was trying to strangle him. Very weird.
Anyway, I’m feeling pretty good but in the bathroom a lot. If I could sit all day I’d probably be fine. At night my back has really been hurting when I try to get out of bed. I seriously need a walker to help me to the bathroom which is about 4 times a night. Once I get up from the toilet I’m fine. It’s the initial walking to the bathroom that gives me horrible, horrible pain. I can hardly stand up straight. I’m sleeping great but wake up suddenly and realize I have to pee. I’ve been really thirsty lately so I’m sure that’s some of the problem.
Swelling wasn’t too bad this week as I was able to wear my wedding ring for 2 days. My legs and ankles are obiviously swollen but my fingers have felt better over the past few days. I tried this morning to put my ring on and it wouldn’t go below my knuckle. So I had to slide my replacement on until the swelling goes down. That probably won’t be until after the baby is born. Other than that I feel pretty good. It’s getting hard to get up in the morning to go to work and sitting all day is hard but I only have 4 more weeks is what I keep telling myself!

34 Weeks - August 3, 2009

Had my bi-weekly appointment today with Dr. Wingo. I took the day off sick because I was still so weak that there was no way I could go to work. Chad took me and I’m glad he did. I was so “hung over” that it would have been a challenge. My husband has really taken good care of me while I've been ill. I love you, Sweetie!
I have gained 3 lbs for a total of 14 lbs gained! I was shocked because I did not really eat anything for almost 4 days! It was all that darn IV fluid. Anyway, blood pressure was good and the baby’s heartbeat was 147. Baby is still measuring 2 weeks ahead. Just another fast and boring appointment. Next appointment is in 2 weeks and then I’ll go weekly.

The swelling begins. I hate this point when everything swells up. My feet throb because there’s so much fluid on them. I don’t think they’re as big as they were when I was pregnant with Lucas but they are definitely swollen. I was doing so well before the stomach virus. I’m really upset because I couldn’t get my wedding ring on this morning. I do have a ring to wear but it’s not “my ring”. I’m trying to drink tons of water to flush it out but swelling is just part of being pregnant.
Still trying to get my strength back but I'm feeling fairly well. The baby is still very active and you can tell it's very squished in there. It's truly amazing that there is a "baby" inside of my stomach. I still forget from time to time that there is a precious miracle baby inside of me until he/she moves. I will really miss feeling this baby move. The pregnancy has gone really fast but I really can't wait until they get here. I'm not to the point where I'm ready to surrender but I'm getting a little tired of being pregnant. I've really enjoyed this pregnancy but it's starting to wear on me. When I think of 5 more weeks it feels like forever and that I'll never make it. I pray that I do and that God will give me the strength to get through because I want this baby to be born healthy and on time, not before.

33 Weeks - July 27, 2009

Only 6 more weeks! These are going to be the longest weeks ever! Getting really uncomfortable at work. No swelling but it’s just hard getting comfortable. Over the weekend I have been getting things washed and cleaned for the baby. Organizing is fun when it’s for a baby.
My birthday is this week and Chad is planning on taking me to lunch at O’Charley’s on Thursday. I had a steak and baked potato a few weekends ago and have been craving it again. It was soooooo good.
Wednesday towards the end of the day I felt weird, uncomfortable and tired. Just not myself. Once I got home I didn’t feel well at all. Chad gave Lucas a bath and I went to bed around 7. I was up all throughout the night not feeling good. Thursday morning diarrhea set in and I felt horrible. Forget that it's my birthday! I called out sick, took a Phenergan and slept ALL day. Friday still didn’t feel well so I tried to get up and move around and thought that would make me feel better. I just couldn't do it. The house was a mess but I just didn't have the strength to do anything. My friend Kylene came over for a while and after she left I took a nap. By that night I had thrown up once but it was a tone of fluid. I tried to keep drinking but there was no way to catch up after that. Friday night was horrible. Finally by Saturday morning I called Chad (who was out garage saling) and asked him to take me to the ER. He had asked me before but I declined thinking only about how much money it would probably cost us. How stupid could I have been? So the whole way to the hospital I’m praying that God will help me feel better. We checked in and I started feeling ill. I asked where the bathroom was and the clerk handed me her trash can. I’m glad she did because I got really sick. I had no idea where all the liquid was from since I felt dry as a bone. They got me in a room and tested my urine and hooked me up to an IV. Nurse returned and drew my blood. It didn’t look good at all for me but the baby was totally happy. I was spilling ketones in my urine and my white blood cells were low. I was really dehydrated. Never knew diarrhea could make you be dehydrated. Duh! I definitely learned my lesson. I kept thinking I was going to be fine. Anyway, after being there for a few hours and 2 to 3 bags of IV fluids they decided to keep me over night. I still had ketones in my urine therefore still being dehydrated. So they moved me to a permanent room for me to continue being pumped with fluids. By Sunday afternoon I had had 7 bags of IV fluid! It was very miserable dragging the IV pole with me every time I had to pee and that was a HECK of a lot. Anyway, they took GREAT care of me and sent me on my way. It was sort of a trial run of when the real thing happens. We brought the laptop to the hospital and were able to get online. So after the baby is born we should have pics on the website as soon as I feel like putting them on there. I’m really excited about that.

Week 32 - July 20, 2009

Mark your calendars!!!! This baby will be born on September 8th, 2009, unless she or he decides to come before then. I’m kind of hoping so because I can’t wait to meet them but I’ll wait another 7 weeks. It really is going fast. It will be September before you know it.
I had my doctor’s appointment today and everything is going fine. Still measuring 2 weeks ahead. Feeling just a little swollen with tight fingers and feet off and on. I gained 3 ½ lbs this visit which makes a total of 11 lbs gained. :( I was trying to keep it under 15 but under 20 is still “okay”. That will be a little over half of what I gained with Lucas. I gained 52 with Lucas!!!!!
Complaint of the week is this shooting pain in my back on the left side. Certain movements send shooting, stabbing pains in my back, so intense I have to yell out. It’s just a sudden onset of pain. I guess it’s the way the baby is laying??? Today it seems to be a little better. Maybe it’s because I’ve been sleeping on the couch. It seems as though every time I crawl into bed Chad is snoring and I cannot get to sleep!!! Last night I got little sleep because either he was waking me up because I was snoring, I’d wake up to his snoring or Lucas was crying out in his sleep! (giggle) It’s awful. I’m exhausted today. Can’t wait to go home and hit the hay. Hopefully Lucas will co-operate with me!
Second complaint is I am growing out of all my clothes. I don't know what I'm going to do. This baby is only going to get bigger. Just about all my maternity clothes I can barely wear now will be unwearable in a few weeks. Frustrating!!! I guess I'll go find some sort of moo-moo to wear.
Third complaint is I'm feeling fat and ugly. I guess all pregnant women go through this. It would be okay if I didn't have this huge, honkin nose!!! Why does my nose get this big? They say the extra blood volume and then your mucous membranes swell. So I guess that's the reason. As long as it goes down after delivery I'll be fine. If not there is definitely a nose job in my future, for sure!

Week 31 - July 13, 2009

Yah!!! I finally broke down and got my hair cut. It has been a year since I got it cut and boy did she cut a lot off.
Week 31? This pregnancy has gone fast but when I think of 8 more weeks/September 8th it seems like forever!!! I don’t want to wish my life away or the summer, I love summer, but I CANNOT wait to see this baby. The 3D pictures from the ultrasound last week really make me anxious. Tons of people keep telling me that I won’t make it to September. I sure hope I do. I’m going to prove them all wrong. I just want the baby to be healthy when it’s born and that we’ll be able to take the baby home when I get discharged. I know of 5 births lately and all 5 babies have been born early and have had problems.
I am really enjoying this pregnancy a lot more than I did with Lucas. I seemed to either be sick or developing a new pregnancy symptom every day. Knock on wood, I think I’ve been just a little sick once. I feel pretty good and I’m sleeping well at night. I just get really tired after work which is totally normal. At the point I love being pregnant. That might change in a few weeks or so.
I was going through a few things and found the game we played from Lucas’ shower. The game where they measure you with toilet paper, we used crate paper instead. It was off like 4 inches and the shower was 2 weeks later then when I did it this week. But then you get bigger with each one. But it was fun going through Lucas’ baby book and reading things about him as a newborn. I can’t wait!!! Lucas is excited, too. I keep asking him what to name the baby if it is a girl and he insists that it’s a boy – well, the baby in his stomach is a boy. He’s been calling the baby Isaac now for a while so at least he’ll know his name if the baby is a boy! If it’s a girl we’re in trouble. He’ll call her Isaac!!!!

Week 30 - July 6, 2009

Monday was the ultrasound and I could not wait. The pictures are below. Everything looks good and the baby is measuring 2 weeks ahead. The gender is still a secret. Chad wanted to find out so bad but we are still keeping it a secret. I have shared the 20 week video with some of my friends online to see if they see a penis like I do. They say that its way too big for it to be a penis and that they see “girl” parts. So it’s still a surprise and it’s fun guessing.
Doctor’s appointment went great. I gained 1 ½ lbs for a total of 7 ½ lbs since seeing that 2nd pink line. I’m very happy but again I started off chubby. Dr. Wingo said that he is not going to change my due date and that it will just be a big baby. So I asked him if I could go ahead and schedule my c-section and he asked his nurse to do that for me. He wasn’t sure if the hospital would take an appointment this early. I want to make sure I deliver at Baptist this time. I haven’t heard anything but we have chosen to have the baby on September 8th, 2009. Dr. Wingo will only do the surgery 1 week prior to my due date. Monday the 7th is Labor Day, the 9th is Wednesday and he doesn’t do C-Sections on Wednesday, Thursday the 10th is Lisa my sister's birthday and Friday the 11th is Thomas my nephew's birthday. So the 8th is the day we’ve chosen. That also is the day that Chad’s precious Grandfather was born. He passed away a few years ago and he was he sweetest person. Lucas gets “Eugene” after him so it so happens that we can have the second baby on his birthday. I pray that the baby doesn’t come before then. I want it to be full term and healthy.
Friday was our 5 year anniversary so Chad decided that we needed to get away just for the night. Trying to get things clean and packed I think I over did things and have an awful pain in back on the left side. Anyway, we went out to eat at Chili’s where we first met eye to eye. Back up a minute, earlier in the week Chad had asked me a few days earlier if I needed anything done to my ring as he was going to take his to get fixed due to a dent. I said yes so I knew where it was. Back to the story, while we were waiting for our dinner he pulled out a white box and I knew it was my ring but what I didn’t know was that he enlarged my center diamond!!! I was so excited and happy. It was like I was engaged all over again. I wanted to show everyone. Then he hands me a card. On the back side it said, “Yes, we can name our son Isaac ___ Otto”. Oh, I was more excited about the name than the ring. I had been praying literally every day that God will change his mind and God came through for me. Only catch is he gets to pick the middle name but I have to agree. He doesn’t like Michael which is a bummer but as long as I get Isaac I’m happy!!! Now I’m scared about what Isaac’s middle name will be.
After that we went to Embassy Suites where we spent our first night as husband and wife. We practically went to the hotel, took our showers and went to bed. We both were tired. Next day Chad woke up and went to garage sales and I got up and ate the continental breakfast and then went back to bed to rest. That was much needed.
Pregnancy wise I feel great. Standing makes it hard on my bladder but as long as I’m sitting it’s not too bad. I’ve been putting up my feet at work to keep the swelling from happening. Had a little swelling this weekend but it seems to be under control. I’m drinking tons of water so that I’m sure is helping. Still having some discomforts with my teeth aligning up but it’s tolerable. Other than those few things I’m feeling good. Baby is really moving a lot these days. I still can’t get it in my head that there is a true baby in there! God is truly amazing!!!! Thank you, God, for this blessing!!!!

30 Weeks - July 6, 2009

Week 29 - June 29, 2009

I have to brag a little bit on my first baby. I think we have him “pee” potty trained. He is doing so well. We started allowing him to pee outside and he loves it. Amazingly enough he has also showed much interest in peeing inside!!! I’m so excited. It’s like a light switched on suddenly and he’s almost completely potty trained. I hope I don’t jinx it. Go Lucas!!!!

Why couldn’t today be the day we have the ultrasound? I can’t wait to see my precious baby again. I am really feeling pregnant now. It’s getting hard to bend over and get around these days. My lower back is hurting and my teeth have seemed to start to not match up. I had a horrible time with this when I was pregnant with Lucas.
I went to the chiropractor last week for my monthly adjustment and it seems as though that’s when my back started hurting. I didn’t have my normal doctor so maybe he did something my body wasn’t used to. I guess this is really around the time of the pregnancy when lower back pain starts. It’s pure murder getting up out of bed to go to the bathroom at night and then getting out of bed in the morning. I guess my muscles get stiff just laying there. I feel like an old woman just trying to go pee. Once I get up after a while it goes away. I’m still sleeping very well so I can’t complain about that. But I am really feeling pregnant now. All my body wants to do is sit. I have tons of fatigue and want to not do anything. I’m getting out of breath/heart pumping hard just doing the simple every day tasks. I guess it’s this extra weight.
Pray for Chad and I as we try to name this baby is it’s a boy. We have our girl’s name but the boy name is a lot more tricky. I mentioned “Issac” to Lucas as being the baby’s name (I guess I probably shouldn’t have done that) and that’s what he calls the baby now. Chad doesn’t like it but I’m so in love with that name. Every name he suggests doesn’t sound the way it does when I say Issac Michael. I just pray every day that God will help him change his mind. Oh, please God!!!!

Week 28- June 22, 2009

The 3rd trimester! Yah!!!! I can’t believe how fast the 2nd trimester flew. Wow. I have my last “month” appointment on Tuesday. Here on out I’ll go every two weeks and then it will be once a week. I believe I’ve gained about 6 lbs this month. EEK! I’m scared to step up on that scale but in all actuality I’ve only gained about 5 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. So I feel good about that. But towards the end of the pregnancy that’s when the weight really starts to pile up. My goal is to only gain like 15 to 20 lbs. That will be less than half of what I gained with Lucas.
I went out to run a few errands for Father’s day on Saturday and it was SOOOO hot. I believe it was in the 90’s???? I was miserable getting in and out of the car with Lucas but got it done and went home to a nice cool house to nap. Lucas’ nap time is MY FAVORITE time of the day. Not that I’m ready to have a break from him but I’m ready to take a break and rest. I’m really feeling good just a little tired here and there. Mondays are horrible. I feel drugged and have a hard time getting through the day. I’ve noticed lately that I’m out of breath with the simplest activities. I guess it’s the extra weight I’m carrying.
Had my doctor’s appointment today. Gained 1 more pound than I thought. So I’ve gained 6 lbs from the weight I started with. I’m happy with that.
Dr. Wingo listened to the baby’s heartbeat. The baby was squirming around and it was hard to get a correct reading but it was 153. He measured me and said I’m measuring 1 to 2 weeks ahead!!!! So before my next appointment on July 6th I’ll go have an ultrasound to see how big the baby really is. He said it probably is okay and that it may be the way the baby was laying. That’s kind of exciting to know that the baby might come sooner then we thought! I saw during the ultrasound at 20 weeks some of the measurements said 21 and 22 weeks. Maybe this is just going to be a big baby. They also said Lucas was big but just a week early he weighed 8 lbs and 2 ozs, totally average.

Week 27 - June 15, 2009

This week has been pretty good. I had a little bit of swelling in my fingers and had a hard time getting my rings off but it seems to go down by the morning. With Lucas I was already swollen up. I pray that I don’t retain as much fluid this time around.
Living in the bathroom a lot lately. Every time I get up I have the urge to pee. The baby is growing and I can really feel it. I can feel the baby move on both sides at the same time, so I know this baby is getting bigger! I am still feeling really good and sometimes still forget I’m pregnant.
Chad and I can’t agree on any boy names. I think we’ve agreed on a middle name but it’s hard agreeing on the first. We have the girl’s name chosen but I think this baby is a boy. That’s the hardest thing about having a child is naming him or her. A name is so important and the child will have to live with it for the rest of their lives. So I really stress out about choosing the “perfect” name for my “perfect” child!

Week 26 - June 8, 2009

Feeling great this week. Getting up at least twice a night to go to the bathroom. I get so stiff during the night that it sometimes becomes difficult. It’s getting hard to get out of bed, get in bed and turning over. I’m sleeping really good, though, so I can’t complain at all. I bought a body pillow several weeks ago and I love it!!!! I wished I had one with Lucas. I had a hard time sleeping my first pregnancy. This one is SO different. With the pillow it feels like I’m sleeping on my stomach which is my favorite sleep position.
Friday morning I woke up and didn’t feel well. I had to push myself to get stuff done I wanted to do. I was nauseated, upset stomach and just fatigued. I’m not sure if I ate something bad or if it’s just the pregnancy. Saturday I felt much better after some rest the day before.

Week 25 – June 1, 2009

Well, Lucas’ birthday party went off without a hitch and I got through my busy, busy weekend. I’m exhausted because I’m so used to getting at least 1 nap in a weekend and there was no time for rest. Now this week is VBS. I leave work and go straight to church. We’re there until about 8:45 and then rush home to jump in the bath and into bed. It’s hard but Lucas is having a great time. I had a hard time on Monday. Lucas is back in school after 2 weeks and is going into a new class and has a new teacher. It’s as if he knows no one. His best friend David is in the classroom next to him. It feels like we started all over dropping him off at the daycare for the first time. I worried all day about him but I believe he did okay. Chad picked him up and he said he seemed fine. I just don’t want him to be scared and upset. I’m sure he’ll just need a few days to meet new friends and get settled. It still breaks my heart. Nancy offered to take him this week to give me a few more minutes at home before work. She said he cried on Tuesday when she dropped him off. I probably would have cried with him. That hurts my heart!
Feeling a lot of soreness and pressure in the lower part of my stomach from I guess the baby’s weight. it seems to get worse when I’m tired or have a full bladder. It feels as though I have ridden a horse. During the night when I get up to turn over or get up to go to the bathroom, which is only once a night, it’s really sore. Other than that I’m still feeling great. Tired from all the craziness that’s been going on but I’m still loving being pregnant. Getting a little swelling but not bad at all. The baby is getting stronger and stronger. I love it! Most movements are felt in the morning and all day. In the morning it’s down low but throughout the day it’s up high. I can actually push and he/she will kick back. It’s sweet! At night he/she is really quite. I hope they’re this good once they’re born.

Week 24 – May 25, 2009

Whoa! This is going to be one busy week. I have a doctor and a chiropractor appt. Plus I was gone all last week so I need to get caught up in 3 days since Monday was Memorial Day. I have a wedding to attend this weekend. I need to decorate and shop for food for VBS. Lucas’ birthday party is Sunday and then the VBS kick off is right after the party. Then next week is VBS. I’m going to be exhausted.
The glucose test went well. No call back so I guess it was negative for gestational diabetes! The baby sounds great with a heartbeat of 150. I have gained 4 lbs since my last appointment. I have 1 lb left to play with before I’ll actually have gained weight since I found out I was pregnant! I feel great about my weight this go-around. Of course I started out bigger with this one than Lucas. But I want to keep it below 15-20 lbs. That’s about half of what I gained with Lucas, 52 lbs! It’s getting hard to not eat a lot because I seem like I’m always hungry.
The baby is really starting to move more and more throughout the day. it’s so nice to feel him or her move and am awestruck just thinking about having another human being inside me! It is truly a miracle. Those unbelievers out there need to go through a pregnancy. After that there would be no way you could deny God. We are truly blessed with this baby. God is so good to us!
New complaint of the week is really painful varicose veins in a gross place. Hot baths with Epsom salt seem to ease the pain. Lord, please allow this to go away. I don’t think I can sit all day long at work without being in tons of pain. Other than that I feel really good. Starting to feel some pressure near my bladder. I guess it’s from the pressure of the baby.

Week 23 – May 18, 2009

Look below for new pictures!
We’re in Gulf Shores this week on vacation. The weather was not that nice. We had Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of sun. Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday were either raining or cloudy. We had plans either shopping or other things. Thursday we went to the outlet mall shopping and then on Friday it was Lucas’ birthday. We let him pick out a toy (leaf blower) at Wal-mart and then took him to the movies for the first time. He did pretty good until the movie candy kicked in. By that time it was almost over. We saw Monsters v. Aliens. I wanted to see Up but it wouldn’t be out for another 5 days. We then went to McDonald's for lunch then back home for a nap. We decorated for his birthday, wrapped his presents and got him a little cupcake so he could blow out his candles. He had a great birthday!
We had an awesome time as this was our first “family” vacation together. Lucas didn’t get in the water much. There was a portion of the pool that was only 1 foot. He got in for the first time and after a while he fell in and got right back up. That was it for the water. He sat on the side and put his feet in but wouldn’t get in all the way. It was really cold so that also may be it.
At the pool one day I actually felt the baby kicking really high and asked Chad if he wanted to feel it. He finally got to feel this baby. I was so excited! The baby is getting really active now and letting me know they’re in there.
The pregnancy is going really good. A lot of the time I forget I’m pregnant. I think I feel much better this pregnancy than last. I only remember feeling a few times the last pregnancy when I enjoyed it. There was always a new symptom popping up. This time, so far, I feel really good and highly enjoying this pregnancy. I also feel much bigger than with Lucas. Next week is my doctor’s appointment and glucose test. We’ll see how much I’ve gained.
